Mykonos
Going to Greece has been a dream of mine for a while. Okay, maybe since the Kardashians had that episode where they went to Mykonos and Santorini. Either way, I was really excited our cruise had a few stops in Greece. Even if it was for only one day.
We started our day by taking a boat to The Old Port of Mykonos City, which is right next to the beautiful Agios Nikolaos Church. It is a popular area of Mykonos that was near a lot of shops, restaurants, and beaches. We walked along the narrow streets, finding the cutest hole in a wall souvenir stores that we couldn’t help but gush over. Everything looked so delicately painted and gave major vacation vibes. The streets were a bit confusing to navigate. We had no clue where we were going and at some point I wasn’t sure if we were even on a street. Luckily, every once in a while we would come across a restaurant or store and I knew we weren’t entirely lost. One of the stores we came across was a souvenir T-shirt shop where Grace and I bought matching black and white Mykonos tank-tops with the iconic seaside windmills on it.
After, we went to find those famous windmills. Let me tell you, it was EXTREMELY windy the day we went. More windy than usual for Mykonos. The windmills weren’t spinning, but my hair and dress were blowing around like crazy. Not the best weather for taking pictures.
Grace and I really wanted to go swimming so after taking photos by the windmills, we walked along the coast until we found a cute beach. The beach wasn’t crowded (probably because it was so windy and the water was freezing!). But you should still be careful and watch your things while at the beach. Grace noticed a man standing by his car glaring at us. Usually I wouldn’t have thought much of this, but he was looking at us the whole two hours. Our guess is he was probably waiting for us to leave our stuff alone on the beach so he could take it. You might think I’m just being paranoid, but it’s a purse snatchers dream with so many cruises stopping on this island for only a day. Moral of this story, never leave your stuff alone on the beach. Even if the beach isn’t crowded.
You can go to Mykonos for only a day and feel like you got to see everything you should, but I would love to go back again and truly absorb myself in the culture of this island. Maybe check out Delos, some museums, and Armenistis Lighthouse.
Beach we went to: Paralia Megali Ammos
